Man’s Inner Battle: Fire vs Light

There is a constant battle inside us between positive and negative energies and good and bad thoughts.

Negative energy and thoughts drive humans away from goals and even from humanity. Meanwhile, a successful person is one who does not let negative thoughts find power.

According to faith leaders, goodness has been defined as light and sin as fire. Man can stay away from sin or inner fire only by remembering God at any moment; this is how light replaces fire. There is always something flammable inside us that may lead us toward the fire.

The inner fire refers to all negative deeds and thoughts, such as hatred and grudge, that we carry inside ourselves. One of the solutions to deal with them is to forgive as has been highlighted in religious teachings. We actually free our souls by forgiving others.

With the decrease or elimination of fire, light increases. “Allah is the Lighter of the heavens and the earth. The example of His Light is like a tube, in which there is a wick. The wick is in a lamp and the lamp is as a glittering planet kindled from a Blessed Tree, an olive that is neither of the East nor of the West. Its oil would almost shine forth though no fire touched it. Light upon light; Allah guides to His Light whom He will. Allah strikes parables for people. Allah has knowledge of all things.” (Surah An-Nur, verse 35)

To set foot on the path of light, we should abandon any negative deed or thought. Fire cannot affect us when we are pure. This was also manifested in one of the miracles of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) when an actual fire became cold and safe for him.
