Two blasts occurred in Kabul on Tuesday, targeting Mumtaz school and Abdul Rahim-e-Shahid High School in the capital’s Dasht-e-Barchi district.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>At least two powerful\u00a0explosions\u00a0ripped through a boys’ school in a Shia-dominated neighborhood of Kabul\u00a0Tuesday, killing more than 20 students.<\/p>\n

The death toll is likely to mount, according to Afghan security officials, as cited by media outlets.<\/p>\n

Local reports and eyewitnesses said\u00a0a\u00a0suicide bomber targeted a school in west Kabul\u2019s Dashte Barchi, a predominantly Shia neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The blast occurred at the main exit of Abdul Rahim Shahid School when students were leaving the school premises after morning classes.<\/p>\n

Photographs and videos from the aftermath of the powerful explosions showed mutilated bodies lying on the ground, discarded notebooks, and people ferrying the injured in ambulances.<\/p>\n

Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran in a\u00a0Twitter post confirmed\u00a0that the blasts\u00a0targeted\u00a0Abdul Rahim Shahid School, which he said had\u00a0“caused casualties among our Shiite brothers”.<\/p>\n

Afghan journalist Zahra Joya said a father had lost all his three sons in the bombing at\u00a0Abdul Rahim Shahid School.<\/p>\n

It came two weeks before the first anniversary of\u00a0the bombing of\u00a0Sayed Ul-Shuhada\u00a0High School in western Kabul that\u00a0killed at least 90 students and wounded scores more, most of them teenage girls leaving class.<\/p>\n

TOLOnews, the war-ravaged country’s leading private TV channel, said\u00a0the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has ordered an investigation\u00a0into the incident, and that details will be made public later.<\/p>\n

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but analysts believe it could be the handiwork of the Daesh terrorist group, which has witnessed a resurgence since the Taliban’s sweeping takeover of the country last\u00a0August.<\/p>\n

The group had claimed responsibility for a series of attacks in\u00a0Hazara-dominated areas in\u00a0west Kabul between September and\u00a0December 2021, which were mainly magnetic bombings targeting civilian vehicles.<\/p>\n

However, between 2014 and 2019, the group carried out major bombings against the persecuted Shia Hazara community in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

The attacks on Ziyarat e Sakhi shrine in western Kabul in 2015, Baqir ul Uloom Masjid in central Kabul in 2015, Al-Zahra Masjid and Imam Zaman Masjid in western Kabul in 2017, Hazara educational center in 2018 are some of the examples of ghastly terror perpetrated by the Daesh terrorist group in\u00a0Afghanistan in recent years.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, quoting eyewitnesses, TOLOnews and Etalaat newspaper also reported a blast near “Mumtaz” training center in the west of Kabul on Tuesday, which resulted from\u00a0a hand grenade. At least six people were wounded in the attack.<\/p>\n

The students\u00a0had reportedly gathered there to prepare for\u00a0a university entrance examination.<\/p>\n
