\u00a0In a ceremony on Friday night, black flags of mourning was raised at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq.<\/div>\n

The ceremony was held as Shia Muslims are preparing to mark the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0of Ramadan, the anniversary of the day when the first Shia Imam, while saying prayers at the Kufa Mosque, was struck in the head with a poisonous sword by Ibn Muljam Muradi, a Kharijite.<\/p>\n

Imam Ali (AS) was martyred two days later on the 21st day of Ramadan.<\/p>\n

Officials of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy mausoleum as well as scores of people participated in the ceremony on Friday.<\/p>\n
