People with materialistic preferences like wealth, power, fame, etc and also like God. But this is not the way it should be.

We must love God more than anything. Are we like that? How do we act with regard to God who is the most compassionate and the most merciful?

God says: “My Mercy embraces all things.” (Surah Al-Aaraf, Verse 156) He stresses that no one should lose hope in His mercy.

It would be such a pity if we come to the point one day in which we regret having failed to fulfil our duties to God. God says in verse 56 of Surah Az-Zumar: “Turn to God in repentance before a soul says, ‘Woe to me because of my failure to fulfill my duties to God. Woe to me for mocking God’s guidance!’”

And on that day we cannot even blame Satan for our failure, as Satan is quoted as saying in verse 22 of Surah Ibrahim: “Do not blame me, rather, blame yourselves.”

We should love God more than anything if we do not want to be among those about whom God says, “They have not valued Allah with His true value.” (Verse 67 of Surah Az-Zumar)

It is our duty to God that He should be the top priority for us and we love Him the most:

“Some people consider certain things equal to God and love them just as one should love God. However, the strongest of the believers’ love is their love of God. Had the unjust been able to reflect about their condition, when facing the torment, they would have had no doubt that to God belongs All-power and that He is stern in His retribution.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 165)

We also read in verse 54 of Surah Al-Maidah, “God will soon raise a people whom He loves and who love Him”. So if God’s love is in your heart, He loves you too. And verse 200 of Surah Al-Baqarah says: “After you complete the acts of your Hajj, also commemorate God, just as you would remember your father…”

In order to increase the love of Allah in our heart, we can read the Quran, take recourse to Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), recite Salawat and other Dhikrs (a form of Islamic meditation in which phrases or prayers are repeatedly chanted in order to remember God).

We must make the most of our life by establishing the love of God in our hearts.
