Muslims particularly the Shia community in the Indian-administered Kashmir have marked Eid al-Ghadir by sending the message of peace across the Muslim world. Congregational ceremonies took place in different parts of the region as a reminder to tell Muslims to live in harmony and brotherhood.

One of the largest gatherings in central Kashmir was attended by leading Muslim scholars, wherein prominent Shia and Sunni figures spoke about the significance of Prophet Muhammad’s last sermon.

Eid al-Ghadir marks the anniversary of Prophet Muhammad’s sermon in which he appointed Imam Ali as his successor.

The occasion is marked on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the lunar Islamic calendar. Each year Eid al-Ghadir is marked by Muslims in Kashmir with reassertion to stay committed to the religion of Islam and teachings and beliefs of the Prophet (Peace upon Him).
