Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abbas Qaem Maqami made the remark, saying the previous miracles were meant only to inspire people but the Quran can also persuade them and is not for just one Ummah in a special period in history.
He said persuasion in religions is mainly based on sensory miracles that only helps to convince those present.
“The miracle presented by Prophet Moses (AS), for instance, was inspiring for those who saw it but for us it is only a historical event.
“However, the miracle of the last messenger of God Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), namely the Holy Quran, is a discoursive one.
“The characteristic of this miracle is that it can persuade different groups of people and is not for a certain group in a certain period in history.
“This is because of the intellectual maturity that human beings had gained in the course of history. So we are not saying that Muslims are a chosen people but by referring to the Ummah of the Last Prophet (PBUH) we mean all human beings living in the Akhir az Zaman (the last period in history of mankind).”
