This morning (Monday 12 May 2025), the Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli met with the Grand Ayatollah Sistani, the Supreme Shia Religious Authority, in Najaf Ashraf.
According to Shafaqna, the website of the Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli described the meeting as follows: During the meeting, the Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli presented a complete set of the distinguished Tafsir Tasnim in 80 volumes to the Grand Ayatollah Sistani and personally handed over the 80th volume to him as a symbolic gift. The Grand Ayatollah Sistani received it with great respect and special attention.
The Grand Ayatollah Sistani welcomed his guest and expressed happiness at his visit to the holy sites, describing Tafsir Tasnim as a source of pride for the Shia community. He stated: “You have spent 40 years in the service of the Holy Quran and have made great efforts. Your work is an honor for the Shia.”
He emphasized: “The essence and foundation is the Holy Quran; the narrations of the Ahlul-Bayt (AS) must be evaluated in light of the Quran, and only if they are in agreement with it can they be considered authentic and applicable.”
He further stressed: “Our view of the Qom Seminary is no different from our view of the Najaf Seminary, and to the extent possible, we will do whatever we can to support the seminaries.”
Expressing his pleasure at the meeting, he said to the Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli: “We had heard much about your qualities and scholarly works, but hearing is not the same as seeing!”
The Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli in turn praised the outstanding character of the Grand Ayatollah Sistani, saying: “The presence of such a great figure as yourself is a great blessing for the seminaries and the Islamic community. You are like a kind and compassionate father to the Shia and the people of Iraq. May your presence remain a lasting blessing.”
He also highlighted the significant role of religious authority in Iraq and added: “The Najaf Seminary, whether directly or indirectly, has been and continues to be a source of immense blessings for the Islamic world. Your role in preserving the social order and confronting extremist movements like ISIS has been historic and enduring.”
The Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli also expressed his appreciation for the valuable services of the Grand Ayatollah Sistani to seminaries both within and outside Iraq, and emphasized the need for increased connection between seminaries.
