There are several references to wealth in the Holy Quran. Islam views the wealth which has been attained from a halal source as a factor for improving individuals’ life in this world.

The Noble Quran has used good descriptions for man’s wealth, considering it as a blessing by God.

“Then, when the prayer has ended, disperse in the land and seek the favor of Allah, and, remember Allah often, so that you prosper.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, verse 10)

According to Tafsir Noor, the Quran recommends people “seek the favor of Allah” which refers to working or trading.

Verse 46 of Surah Al-Kahf, provides another Quranic perspective on the issue: “Wealth and children are the ornament of this present life. But the things that last and good deeds, are better with your Lord in reward and hope.”

According to the verse, all the blessings of this world are like “ornaments” that make our lives more beautiful, however, having wealth and children are more attractive compared to all other blessings.

The word “al-banun” refers to sons because they are economic arms of a family.

There are also some verses that name wealth as a means to test humans. “We shall test you through fear, hunger, loss of life, property, and crops. (Muhammad), give glad news to the people who have patience.” (Surah Baqarah, verse 155)

According to the interpretation of this verse, individuals will be tested by their wealth so as to determine how they have spent their property in this world.

Religious teachings recommend people avoid becoming arrogant by attaining wealth and becoming depressed by losing it.

The view on wealth that the Quran recommends here is the one close to the view that bank employees have as they do not own this wealth and only process it. “So that you would not grieve over what you have lost nor become too happy about what God has granted to you. God does not love the arrogant boastful ones who are niggardly and who try to make other people also niggardly.” (Surah Al-Hadid, verse 23)

According to the Quran and hadiths, Islam has a serious view on the issue of wealth and has also mentioned the importance of production.
