Don’t be in a Hurry to Get the Response…

A believer shouldn’t be in a hurry for fast acceptance of his supplication because God almighty may delay the response for a goal that he doesn’t know. God almighty likes his servant to insist on asking for his need to hear his request and supplication. It was narrated by Abi Abdullah (a.s):” God almighty hates the insistence on people for a need but likes to insist on Him. God almighty likes to be requested and asked for his blessings”.. [1]
Insistence on supplication is among the reasons for getting the response as Al Imam Al Baqer (a.s) says:” I swear to God that when a believer insists on God almighty by supplication, he will get his answer”. [2]
A supplicator shouldn’t despair a man of God’s mercy so that he leaves supplication. Al Imam Al Sadeq (a.s) says:” A believer remains in goodness and hope of God’s almighty response until he is in a hurry to get the response, so he despairs and leaves supplication. So I asked: how is a believer in a hurry? So he (a.s) said: when a believer says:” when saying: I asked God for something long ago but I didn’t get the response”. [3]
It was mentioned in the commandment of the Commander of the Faithful (a.s) for his son Al Imam Al Hasan (a.s):” Do not despair because of the slow down of the response because the gift is given according to the intention. The response may be delayed for it is greater for the supplicator’s rewards and more generous to the hopeful’s reward. Maybe you will ask for something but you are not answered to get a better one in the wish or it may be repealed because this is better for you. You may ask for something whose response harms your religion”. [4]
One of the most important details that explain the slow down of response is the question of one of Al Imam Al Rida’s (a.s) friends when he said: I asked Al Imam (a.s): You are as dear to me as my father and mother, I requested God almighty for a need since many years ago and I felt hopeless because of its slow down, so Al Imam (a.s) said:” O Ahmad, don’t leave a path for the devil to enter your heart to despair you, Abu Jaafar (a.s) used to say: A believer may ask for his need and God delays the response because of his love to hear the believer’s voice and his crying. Then he said:” I swear that delaying a believer’s response is better for him than getting the response; what importance does a Dunya have (life)? Abu Jaafar used to say: a believer’s supplication in the time of ease should be the same as his supplication in the time of distress. He shouldn’t calm down in times of distress. So don’t feel bored of supplication because it has a great importance in the eyes of God almighty”. [5]
